Seattle based drone metal band Sunn O))) launched an amazing debut to their spring 2026 in at the eloquent United Theater in downtown Los Angeles. Following the release of their self-titled album, the Seattle band kicked off their US tour in the west coast and played to a massive audience of fans of all ages. Led by duo Greg Anderson and Stephen O’Malley, the band created a larger than life setup on stage by decorating it with a wall of amplifiers around them and a barrage of lights that almost mimic that of a church. Known for being incredibly loud, the venue’s staff was adamant on having guests wear earplugs to protect everyone’s hearing and thank goodness I followed suit. What followed was one of the most mesmerizing and ethereal performances I have ever seen in my life. I felt this serene feeling once seated and I was lost in the duo’s slow and calculated movements on the stage while I was bathed in the harsh yet soothing sounds of their music. Although the set-list only consisted of 4 songs (“Everett Moses”, “CandleGoat”, “Butch’s Guns”, and “XXANN”), their length made up for it and the show went on for over an hour. Their meticulous movement and even more meticulous style of playing was only amplified with the venue’s intimate feeling and I truly felt like I was witnessing something special.
After having been a fan of the duo since I first ventured into metal in my teen years, seeing them live at such a beautiful venue and witnessing their talents as musicians up close and personal felt like an absolute fever dream. For all the fans in LA that didn’t make it out to the concert, you can still check out our exclusive photo gallery linked in just below.
