90’s British rock band Pulp are currently on tour across North America for the first time in many years and recently made their way to Canada to perform back to back concerts in Toronto. The group would play a pair of dates at History on September 1oth and 11th to a sold out crowd on both nights. The name of this tour which is considered to be a reunion of sorts for the band is titled “This Is What We Do For An Encore” with shows across the United States and one Canadian stop scheduled. It felt like a historic occasion knowing how rare a live performance from Pulp is in Toronto as appearances here have been few and far between over the band’s multi-decade history. Although the group has a musical catalogue that dates back before I was even born, I can truly say the band sounds as great as ever. Front man Jarvis Cocker’s vocal projection sounded amazing and clean through the sound system at History, performing songs such as “Disco 2000”, “Common People” and the surprise tune “Lipgloss” which the band informed the crowd prior that it was a track they rarely perform live. One of my personal favourite numbers from Pulp has to be the 1998 classic “This is Hardcore” which is song I would describe as a kind of musical noir. We were lucky enough to capture a video clip of the live performance in Toronto which we have linked in just below via our YouTube channel. Up next for the band are concert dates in New York City, San Francisco and Los Angeles so be sure to get out and grab tickets to experience the Brit-pop nostalgia which is undergoing a resurgence with the recent announcement of the Oasis reunion.
