It was a feast for the eyes and ears as UK electronic rock band Enter Shikari took the stage on October 23rd at Toronto’s Danforth Music Hall. Lead singer Rou Reynolds walked onto the stage to a sold-out crowd as he began the set with the spoken word section of their song “System // Meltdown”. The lyric “so this is such exciting time to be alive, our generation’s got to fight to survive” being yelled the loudest by Reynolds and by fans, it is as cathartic as it does rings true. As the second half of the song began, the rest of band walked on to the stage to start the show. The light show began with laser beams dancing across the venue. At times, you couldn’t tell if you were at a rock show or if you had just walked into an underground rave with high levels of theatrics and productions. The fun didn’t stop there as Rou Reynolds brought out his trumpet for a little solo later in their set. The energy level in the venue would only continue to rise from start to finish!
Opening acts Yours Truly and You Me at Six kicked off the night – with the crowd reminding us why Aussie band Yours Truly should return to Toronto soon! Between their fun, infectious energy and Mikaila Delgado’s phenomenal vocals – I can see them packing buildings next time they’re in town. As exciting as the night was it was also bittersweet for the You Me at Six fans as the band are set to take their final bow in early 2025. Their set was a perfect send off, with a handful of concert goers saying how grateful they were to see the band for what most likely was the first AND last time. The set also included a nice surprise for Enter Shikari fans as Reynolds joined the band for the song “No Future? Yeah Right”. Whether you’re intrigued by the music or the light spectacle, I highly recommend checking out an Enter Shikari show the next time they touch down in Toronto or anywhere else. You can still catch all of these amazing artists live as the North American leg of their tour continues with a stop in Vancouver on November 2nd. The tour is scheduled to conclude in Los Angeles on November 9th.
