American indie rock band STRFKR (pronounced “Starfucker”) took to the Village Underground stage in London, England on Monday evening for the first date of their 2024 UK tour. Delayed by a tour bus breakdown, fans were left waiting in the autumnal air for longer than expected as doors opened 45 minutes late to allow the band time to soundcheck. STRFKR pushed ahead regardless and delivered a high energy show that delighted the London fan base. They would perform tracks from across their discography including their latest release Parallel Realms. The show kicked off in absurdist fashion with front man Joshua Hodges appearing on stage in a pink wig and oversized sunglasses whilst flanked by a dancing spacemen who would return for the finale of the show and accomplish an incredible feat of doing the splits whilst crowd surfing. Supporting STRFKR was American indie-pop artist Happy Sad Face, a mysterious figure hidden behind a lucha libre-style mask who won over the London crowd with a surreal and theatrical performance of heartfelt tunes. The show was a visual treat, with bold, graphic imagery projected onto a screen behind the band throughout the evening. The party atmosphere came to a climax with a cover of “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” followed by a crowd-pleasing encore which ended in a huge cloud of smoke being released leaving the fire alarm sounding as fans made their way out of the venue. STRFKR proved that the show must always go on and did so with an evening of fantastic music and good vibes. For the fans that couldn’t make it out to The Village Underground on November the 4th, you can still enjoy the photo gallery linked in just below featuring both bands.
