Sorry It’s Over as you missed the sickest album release party of the year. The OBGMs packed the Velvet Underground this past Friday November 15th for “The Ceremony” to celebrate the release of their third album ‘Sorry It’s Over’ to a sold-out crowd full of hardcore fans, family and friends within the entertainment industry…..And man, did they ever kill it!
The energy was contagious as the four piece dawned the stage in their signature white one-piece Dickies jumpsuits, playing the new album in full along with fan favourites in their discography. You never know what is going to happen at an OBGM concert, but how could I describe it as anything else other than beautiful punk rock chaos. Between a fan coming on stage to do push ups, as well as the lead singer of fellow Toronto rock band Burner’s Deshaun Molloy (who we have covered in the past) playing with his Tech Deck alongside OBGMs guitarist, Simon Outhit and a fan crowd surfing on his belly – who knows what is going to happen? Not to mention lead singer, Denz, jumping into the crowd multiple times and even crowd surfing with a basketball held tightly to his chest. Heavy in sound and heavy within the lyrics as ‘Sorry It’s Over’ is a very personal album, touching on ones mental health which fans seem to resonate with and horrible previous relationships. Kicking off the evening were artists Frankie Flowers and Gloin, hailing from Waterloo and Toronto respectively. Both who I highly recommend if you enjoy the sounds of post punk and noise rock, do check them out whenever you can – they do not disappoint. The OBGMs are legends in the making, the pillars of the Toronto music scene, and how are they not more popular I don’t even know. For those who live in Ontario, you can catch The OBGMs playing in Ottawa in December, then Guelph and Hamilton in January. As the younger generation would say – don’t sleep on them!!! For the fans that didn’t get a chance to see them play live on this tour, you can still enjoy our exclusive photo gallery from The Velvet Underground on November 15th featuring all three bands.
