Do you remember the days when you’d come home from school to watch your favourite music videos on Much Music? Or looking forward to the MMVA’s (Much Music Video Awards, the Canadian equivalent of the MTV Video Awards) every summer? Down With Webster is one of those bands that can surely take you back to those days…while simultaneously make you feel like you’re at a college party. The Christmas tree wasn’t the only thing that was lit this past weekend. The Holiday Wintour touched down at History in Toronto on December 20th and 21st for two packed nights, giving fans one last hurrah before all the upcoming family get-togethers. The five piece rap/rock group pulled out all the stops, from throwing various gifts into the crowd, playing their greatest hits (Whoa is Me, Your Man, Chills), along with some very deep cuts for fans that have been rocking with them since the late 2000s. They even played a brand new, unreleased track with the hopes of it coming out in the new year. Not to the mention having a full marching band dawned in ski masks performing for most of the show and the stage decorated like something out of children’s holiday special. Fun fact, the marching band playing with is the same one that performed with Down With Webster during the 2011 MMVAs! The holiday spectacular didn’t stop there, Marty the drummer shared pizza’s courtesy of Pizza Nova with the crowd while the iconic jingle plays in the background. The show also the saw the reunion of previous band members and long-time friends, Dave aka “Diggy” on the turntables and backing vocalist, rapper and hype man, Kyle aka “Kap”. Warming up the crowd on those cold winter nights was up and coming alternative/rap artist Sunsetto. Originally from Nova Scotia, Sunsetto, now Toronto based, he owns the stage with such fun energy with a healthy mix of emotionally lyrics mixed in with those catchy beats. If you’re a fan of Joji, The Kid Laori and blackbear – then I highly recommend Sunsetto. And on the second night of Christmas, I mean Wintour, fans saw the Toronto collab of the century featuring Juno Award Winning band and fellow east end darlings, The Beaches taking the stage with DWW for a remixed performance of their smash hit “Blame My Ex”. Down With Webster couldn’t have asked for a better come back in 2024. Being present for two of their hometown shows this year, could only be described as seeing a good friend that you haven’t seen in years and immediately partying with them. Between lead vocalist and guitarist, Patrick’s raw, gritty vocals, along with the rapping styles of Cam and Bucky, that unique sound will always make this group such a stand out and iconic Toronto band. 2025 is going to be an amazing year for DWW and I can’t wait to see what they do next. For those that want re-live the holiday concert fun and for the fans that couldn’t make it, here’s a photo gallery featuring both acts from the sold-out show at History just below.
