Virginia alternative rock band Turnover has been up and running since 2009 and has been on a plethora of tours since then – fast forward to 2025 and the band would embark on a tour that shook up the whole fan base as well as other fans of the genre. In late 2024, the band announced a North American tour that would celebrate the 10th anniversary of their breakout album Peripheral Vision. Fans flocked to Ticketmaster and would sell out in multiple cities. On this night, I had the privilege of being able to see them at this most recent show in LA at the Greek Theater with support from Balance and Composure. While I’ve seen both bands live before, I have never seen them at such a large stage and I was in for a pleasant surprise! Hailing from Doylestown PA , Balance and Composure hit the stage and although their set list was shorter since they were the openers, they still took advantage of the time they had to provide a memorable performance. Their beautiful mix of post hardcore and emo were beautifully captured by the massive venue and meshed well. Next up was Turnover where the audience was roaring as the stage was all black and they gently walked to their places. As soon as they played “Cutting Off My Fingers” aka the first song off the album, everyone around me was singing along to the shoegaze-Midwest emo inspired track. Their choice of lighting not only matched the color scheme of their 2010’s staple of an album but also gave a warm welcoming feeling to the stage as if they were an old friend that was here to see you. The backdrop resembled a corn field that almost feels representative of where they are from. Suddenly, as the band progressed through each song off the album, a massive wave of nostalgia was hitting me as I spent my late teens and early twenties listening to that album from front to back. As I headed to my seat after I finished my time in the photo pit, I made it in time to see them perform “Dizzy on the Comedown” which is one of my all time favourite songs, and I of course sang along to my heart’s content as the warm environment that the band created engulfed me. As they concluded the concert, the band still had two tricks up their sleeve which came in the form of two new songs! While the songs are currently untitled, it was amazing to see the band surprise everyone with new material as a way to show everyone that this tour will also mark the beginning of a new era. They also surprised everyone by playing the tune “Most of the Time”, one of their earliest hits from their debut album Magnolia. This was the first time in a decade since they’ve played it so I was in utter shock as they performed it at such a large capacity. This show will easily go down as one of my favourite concert experiences and I’m incredibly grateful that I got to photograph and see them live for this tour. I’m super excited to see how the rest of their upcoming album sounds like and what else they have in store for fans but make sure to follow them on Instagram @Turnoverva to hear it first. For all the Turnover fans that didn’t make it out to the concert at The Greek Theater, you can see check out our photo gallery just below featuring both bands.
