Queer punks just do it better.
This past Friday May 30th, Toronto punk band Chinese Medicine celebrated the release of their brand new EP The Trans Agenda. It may have been cool out in the streets of Toronto, but inside the Baby G, it was a sauna – no really, everyone regardless if they were moving or not, were drenched in sweat. The night was filled with amazing performances, loads of moshing and was all around an amazing time. In a time where it is hard to simply just exist, escaping to a show to freely be yourself is so important, now more than ever. Being at a Chinese Medicine show allows you to be without judgment, you can effortlessly immerse yourself in a safe space and have fun. Drag artist Shemo Nite started the night off with a very special performance to the new Laura Jane Grace tune “Your God (God’s Dick)”. I firmly believe that a drag performance at any event, makes it all the more fun and exciting.Opening acts Leona Hell and Sham Family gave their all on stage with face melting music, two Toronto post-punk acts you should definitely keep your eyes and ears on. And just when you think the performance bill couldn’t get any better, fellow Toronto artist Shiv and the Carvers joined Chinese Medicine on stage for their song “Total Happiness”, I’m still in awe of how good everyone sounded.
The Trans Agenda Track list:

A catchy EP that ignites a flame that will make you want to fight and challenge the system. Great for those that love a classic punk sounding band. Chinese Medicine are not only an important band to the Toronto music scene, but to the LGBTQIA2S+ community in the city too. Chinese Medicine can be found performing around Ontario and Alberta this summer, so if they are near you do check them out!
