In part of their 2025 US tour, the Los Angeles based electronic rock duo Sextile performed a phenomenal set at the Novo Theater in downtown Los Angeles in support of their new album “Yes, Please”. The concert featured support from Discovery Zone and Automatic – combined the three of them were able to throw a thrilling show. Starting the night was the New York based synth pop artist Discovery Zone. Although she did not take up much space on stage leaving her with only a projector and her instruments in one small area. Discovery Zone was able to create a beautiful ambience that perfectly encapsulates how mellow and serene her music is as the projector filled her space with hypnotic visuals. Despite having a relatively short set, Discovery Zone was still able to leave a lasting impression to fans who came early to catch her set as many fans gave her a really wonderful round of applause when her set ended.
Next came the Los Angeles based trio Automatic with synths/vocalist Izzy Glaudini, Halle Saxon on vocals and bass, and Lola Dompe on vocals and drums. The indie trio has been touring with Sextile and as they reached their hometown show, the band truly put their heart and soul into this set as a thank you to their hometown. Similar to Discovery Zone, the all woman trio were able to master their ambiance on stage with their lighting and managed to make themselves appear ethereal and larger than life. Although I was not familiar with their music beforehand, I ended up becoming a huge fan of them once their set ended! Finally, the bill came the Los Angeles duo Sextile and the crowd immediately roared in excitement as they hit the stage. Led by Brady Keehn and Melissa Scaduto, the electronic rock duo ran to the stage in excitement and Melissa waved a massive flag that said “People Over Politics” which left more fans cheering for the pair as they made a clear statement. Starting their set with Intro followed by Disco, the duo were able to create an incredible aura where fans left and right were able to dance along with the music. Meanwhile, Brady had an electric energy on stage as he dashed around to both sing and dance while Melissa stood back to play the instrumentals.
As Brady continues to bring on a vibrant performance, Melissa takes the helm to start singing her songs starting with No Fun and similarly to Brady, Melissa was able to dominate the stage and sing and dance in a way that invites everyone to do the same. As the show persisted both vocalists were able to take turns on singing their songs without ever creating any sort of friction or changing the tone of the concert, they were able to match each other’s energy perfectly and truly create a beautiful experience as a result. Halfway through, they would invite Izzy Gladini with them so she can do her feature on the track Crash which was truly the highlight of my night as it was the song that introduced me to Sextile! As the night drew to a close, Sextile ended their set with Lost Myself Again leaving the night on a high note and making everyone already excited to see what comes next from the group.
