On Saturday, March 1st, The Garrison in Toronto was packed to the brim all in celebration of the release of Burner’s new LP, Become Nothing. Getting to hear this record in full was a full-blown musical experience. Between the flashing lights on stage plus the post-hardcore and shoegaze sound that carried us through the set, it felt like we were being transported. Like a scene from an 90’s movie where the protagonist enters an alternative club for the first time and their perspective on the world shifts in that moment. They’re moody, they’re done with everything, this reflects how they feel. Deshaun’s voice sounding almost haunting but very captivating. I was not expecting the band to bring out a saxophonist about half way through their set, but fit the vibe so perfectly.

Seeing Burner’s growth since the last time we covered them back in October, all I can say is – WOW. They are on an upward trajectory, and I can’t wait to see which venue they pack and sell out next. Their community/fan base just keeps getting bigger and growing into one big family. The EP release show felt like a family reunion. The type of family you can thrash yourself into and crowd surf over, of course. Become Nothing track list:

  1. Become Nothing
  2. Climb
  3. Harborn
  4. Pressure

  6. Careening

My personal favourites: Harborn, Careerning and Noinfinty.

For those that couldn’t make it out to The Garrison last weekend, you can still check out our photo gallery just below for some exclusive images from the show. I do highly recommend keeping up with Burner as they’re of Toronto’s indie music gems and deserved to be heard. Drop them a follow @burner.to to see when and where they play next!
