Toronto’s Danforth Music Hall buzzed with anticipation as fans escaped the bitter cold left behind by the city’s record-breaking snowfall. Inside, the packed venue felt like a refuge from the frigid streets, warm and ready for a night of theatrics from three bands determined to melt whatever winter had left behind. Wednesday 13 opened the evening with a slow, deliberate entrance, the front man appearing last to a surge of cheers. Touring Mid Death Crisis, the band split their set between the new record, their debut Transylvania 90210, and a handful of covers. Their performance was tight and commanding, drums rumbling through the hall, the front man prowling the risers, and one guitarist repeatedly stealing the spotlight as each solo plunged the stage into darkness except for a single focused beam. The crowd devoured every moment. The Birthday Massacre followed next with their signature blend of dark charm and heartfelt energy. Members emerged one by one, the bassist laying down a euphoric pulse as synths swelled for “Nightshift”. The sold-out room moved as a single mass, not moshing, but swaying and headbanging in approval. The keyboardist’s wild, animated presence, leaping across and atop the instrument, contrasted beautifully with front woman Sara’s fluid, expressive vocals. Heart-shaped hands filled the air, mirrored by the band as they fed off the crowd’s warmth.
Final act Lord of the Lost set the stage with an eerie piano intro, the keyboardist miming along before the band entered individually, revealing a second drum kit behind the keys. When the intro broke, the hall was hit with double kicks, rapid riffs, and choral accents. “Bazaar Bizarre” landed with ominous force, the crowd chanting familiar lines. After three quick tracks from Opvs Noir, the lead singer Chris Harms paused to thank Toronto, reflect on their long journey, and remind everyone to savour the moment. The set surged forward with the new collaboration “I Hate People” and “Blood for Blood” sending the room bouncing in unison.
