Marking their first ever North American headlining tour, metal-core group Future Palace lit up Montreal’s iconic venue Foufounes Électriques. They are midway through their tour promoting their album ‘Distortion’ that was released back in September 2024; with this being their first time travelling to another continent as a band! Future Palace’s previous tour was in early 2025 through Europe, and after a busy summer jamming at numerous festivals across Europe they answered the wishes of their North American fan base. Starting off the night was the band Half Me, diving straight into songs off their most recent EP ‘Opium’. The songs featured built up a heavy hitting set list with their last song ‘In Denial’ leaving a strong impression with its harsh breakdowns. As anticipation ramped up, metal group Hawk got the crowd moving with them as they ran through popular songs from their discography such as ‘Counter Ops’ and ‘Mileage’. Armellino had fun interacting with the crowd, and paused to share anecdotes and note the venue’s high stage saying he’s “never been this high up at a bar” (it is indeed high for a bar stage!). That didn’t stop him or his band mates from dancing and jumping with the crowd as they encouraged mosh pits. Added to the set was an unreleased track from 2017 that drummer Adam Reed and front man Ricky Armellino had laying around on their computer.Future Palace burst onstage to cheers with their song ‘Malpha’, the audience was singing along. They would continue to run through their album ‘Distortion’, with audible excitement from the crowd as they recognized the first notes of each new song played. With it being their first time in Montreal, the band was shocked hearing several audience members had already seen them live in performances in Germany and America. Vocalist Maria Lessing was excited to sign a sign from a fan who had seen them this summer all the way in Nürnberg at Rock in the Park. Lessing took a moment to talk about several songs on the set list that she had written herself with personal lyrics, with notable song being ‘Decarabia’, that spoke of hopelessness and of two people who are depressed and hate their life but love each other – a bittersweet song packaged in upbeat vibes that got the room dancing. Ending a night of wonderful music was a song described as Future Palace’s theme song, ‘Paradise’ which encapsulates them as a band by spreading the message that things get better and to always hope for a better future. Make sure to keep an eye on Future Palace for future releases and give their newest single ‘Cyclone’ a listen.
