On Sunday night, Swedish band Imminence brought “The Return of The Black” tour to Montreal’s Olympia Theatre. The sold-out venue was buzzing with fans anticipating the night’s diverse lineup. Opening was JILUKA, a Japanese visual kei metal band that strode onstage with theatrical costumes that matched their energy. The group exuded a poised confidence as they jumped through their new single “KVLT” released February 16th. They delivered an energetic performance with fans excitedly calling out to their favourite members. Next up was French band LANDMVRKS, running straight into a high energy performance. The two openers had their own distinct style, catering to a wide range of metal fans; with nu metal influence threaded through LANDMVRKS set list as vocalist Florent Salfati slid between rapping and screams. They wasted no time encouraging crowd surfers to jump up, and had the crowd singing along with their song “Visage” as well as songs from their most recent album The Darkest Place I’ve Ever Been. As the night’s energy peaked, Imminence opened their set with the track “Paralyzed” to rousing cheers. The stage was dressed with lit cathedral windows and scenic lanterns which undoubtedly added a dramatic flair to the band’s cinematic music and striking stage presence. They ran through various songs off their latest album The Return of The Black, an extended edition of their fifth studio album featuring new remixes and collaborations. The band rounded off the night with the fan favourite and ever popular tune “The Black”.
