Sometimes the best things in life are free, or the simple things are rather. Throughout the morning of August the 12th, Simple Plan took to their Instagram to tease a free performance at Toronto’s Union Station ahead of their first night on tour with the pop-punk princess herself Avril LavigneBy 2pm the countdown was set “Pop Up Show @ Union for 5pm” and I like many others flocked to Union Station as quickly as we could. It has been years since I’ve seen Simple Plan perform live so there was no way I was passing up on this opportunity. Members Pierre Bouvier, Jeff Stinco and Sébastien Lefebvre took the stage and performed a few their biggest hits like “I’m Just a Kid”, “Welcome to My Life”, “Jet Lag” and “Perfect” acoustically. Although there was an eager audience member who requested they sing the Scooby Doo theme song – if you know, you know. There will always be something so entertaining and communal about a bunch of people in their 20s and older yelling the lyrics to “I’m just a kid and life is a nightmare”. It was a short and sweet set but no better way to kick off the week in my opinion. Simple Plan will be opening for Avril Lavigne on her Greatest Hits Tour and they’re scheduled to be back again in town this Friday at Budweiser Stage! Just below you can enjoy some exclusive pictures from the event at Union Station plus don’t forget to follow Simple Plan on social media @SimplePlan to see when they’re heading to a city near you.
