In between their Coachella performances, Speed came down to Los Angeles to do a special one off show at the legendary Roxy Theater on the famous Sunset Strip. Hardcore has a very special place in my heart personally as it is the genre of music that helped me find myself and become the person I am today. The genre has undoubtedly started to gain mass levels of attention as bands such as Knocked Loose and Turnstile are now Grammy nominated and have performed on popular late night talk shows. Amid this boom in the genre, the Sydney (AUS) based band Speed continues this trend as the band made it to the 2025 Coachella bill and further cementing the DIY genre’s new growth. As expected, the band was absolutely explosive in energy as their intense guitars and bass flooded the venue with an excited crowd who immediately took to the floors to two step. Additionally, since the show had no barricade, people were able to climb up and stage dive to their heart’s content. Really ushering in the sense of community and freedom that only hardcore can provide. Although the set seemed brief due to the tight schedule or possibly because it was so great, songs like “Kill Cap”, “Real Life Love”, and “The First Test” were an immediate hit with the audience and everyone in the venue was singing along to each song. As Coachella concluded and the band plays more shows in the US, I’m ecstatic to see just how far Speed’s fan base expands as it appears that they’re only at the beginning stages of growth in their careers. It’s safe to say that the Coachella appearance will only serve to launch the band into higher levels of popularity so keep you eyes open for more music releases from the band.
