Turnover kicked off the first night of their latest tour this Sunday in Toronto with a sold-out show at the Danforth Music Hall. Joining them were longtime friends Balance & Composure and Tigers Jaw as support. This night held special meaning for many long-time fans, as the tour marks the ten-year anniversary of Peripheral Vision – a monumental album that signalled a transitional period in the band’s sound. Excited is an understatement when describing how fans reacted to the tour announcement. Every band on the bill has been influential to the early 2010’s emo/indie scene, evolving alongside their listeners as they fine-tuned their styles over the years. The night was dreamy, nostalgic, and filled with emotion – marking the start of what’s sure to be a memorable tour in 2025. Pennsylvania’s Tigers Jaw would be the first to hit the stage, opening the night to an already nearly full venue. Despite being first on the lineup, fans were piling in to catch their set. The group has a long-standing presence in the indie rock world, marked by lineup changes and a brief hiatus in 2013 so needless to say it wasn’t surprising to see show goers rushing through the doors to catch their performance. Following up was Balance & Composure, a perfect complement to the previous act. Also hailing from Pennsylvania, their sound strikes a balance between melodic and grunge, packed with emotion and raw energy. With roots going back to the early 2000s, their music was a staple of any good emo playlist. After a hiatus beginning in 2019, the band re-emerged in 2023 and released an album in late 2024 – their first in eight years. It’s safe to say this band still holds a special place in their fan’s hearts, and that was clear to see as the room gave them their undivided attention. Last but not least, Turnover took the stage, launching into a full performance of Peripheral Vision. This album is monumental, as it marked a breakthrough in the band’s success and a definitive shift toward their signature dreamy-pop sound. Fans sang their hearts out to nearly every track, their emotions perfectly syncing with the music. At times, the room felt like it was in a trance; serene and swaying in unison – absorbing the emotional weight of the music. In addition to hearing the entire album, the crowd was treated to two new tracks, plus a fan favourite oldie, “Most of the Time” which hadn’t been played live since 2015. Before closing out the night, vocalist Austin Getz gave a heartfelt shout out to Toronto and the band’s history with the city. He spoke about the importance of bringing along bands who came up alongside Turnover, explaining how their friends in Tigers Jaw and Balance & Composure were the perfect fit to join this tour. This is undoubtedly a night Toronto show-goers and music lovers will forever remember. The Peripheral Vision 10th Anniversary tour is only just getting started, it is scheduled to make its way through the United States with over half of the dates already sold out.
