British alternative rock band Yellow Days has been touring during the early summer months this year for the group’s latest North American tour titled “HOTEL HEAVEN”. The name falls in line with the brand new album from the band which just came out in April and brings Yellow Days into the next stage of their musical evolution and sound. It has almost been a decade since the official debut from Yellow Days with “Harmless Melodies” in 2016 which I would consider a classic album and one of my favourites from the 2010’s. Lead singer George Van Den Broek has matured in every way in 8 eight years seemly growing into his voice since breaking into the music scene as a teenager. Now in 2024, Yellow Days is breaking new ground with their music – moving away from hip-hop infused beats to more psychedelic and soulful sounds on HOTEL HEAVEN. Yellow Days has played in Toronto at least once before but this probably the biggest show and the most extravagant. Openers Lex Fransche and Jack Moves were on the schedule to warm up in the crowd at the Opera House. The performance from Yellow Days is much more then live music as the stage was themed with stuff that you would expect to see at a hotel with items such as the front desk and retro rotary style telephone. Actress Hannah Chinny stared in the role as the hotel concierge who would come out mostly between songs to provide some comic relief for the crowd. Hannah would perform various antics such as blowing bubbles, serving drinks, answering the phone at the front desk and interacting with fans in the front row. It was a unique musical experience and it is always great to see musicians putting their own unique spin on live music which helps to keep things interesting. As for the set list, Yellow Days would perform a large portion of the new album in Toronto and featured all of the singles from the project such as “You’re so cool”. It was a pleasant surprise for me personally when hearing a lot of classics being played from 2016’s ‘Harmless Melodies’ such as “A Little While” and also the fan favourite “Gap in the Clouds” which we were lucky enough to have captured a live video clip of which is linked in just below via YouTube. Seeing how this band originates from the UK, it is needless to say the amount of times they perform in Canada are a few and far between so the true fans like myself made sure to take the chance to see them live. As of today, the North American HOTEL HEAVEN Tour is officially over for now and we are still waiting for news on more show dates for the rest of 2024. The most recent update on the Yellow Days official social media accounts have a cryptic video post stating that a new announcement is coming this Friday(August 9th) and quote “the album is out but the story isn’t finished yet”.
