For their very first tour in America, Vianova hit the stage with a wardrobe as energetic as their set. They had super intricate guitar and incredible backing tracks that blended seamlessly with the live instruments. The band, based out of Berlin, uses lots of electronic elements in their music which allowed them to stand out within the lineup. While they were the first band of the night to play, you wouldn’t be able to tell with how long the audience sang their closing song Whatever Alright. Foxlake, the next band, is a metal-core/hardcore blend mixed with rap-inspired metal. Massive mosh pits roared throughout the band’s entire set, with the song AVOID having one of the best call out breakdowns of all time. The band put security to work with lots of crowd surfers being lifted up and over the barricade. The band definitely got the crowd moving and ready for the third band of the night. 156/Silence, a Pittsburgh based metal-core band, also made their set stand out; they opened several of their songs with the themes of horror movies. With lots of fan engagement and two-stepping both on stage and in the crowd, 156/Silence’s energy carried through the crowd to get people pumped and ready for the main act of the night.
The headliner Thornhill is currently touring for their most recent album, BODIES and is a nu-metal/metal-core blend based on Australia. They are entirely self-produced and pull a lot of influence from bands like The Smashing Pumpkins and Deftones. BODIES focuses on feelings of lust and tightly wound tension that is expressed in both the instruments and lead singer Jacob’s vocals. This sentiment was amplified in the live versions of the songs. Thornhill brought raw and powerful emotion to the stage that could be felt throughout the entire venue. Their set was the perfect way to end a night of amazing bands playing one after the other.
