Toronto based electronica band Holy Fuck played an intimate set at the historic Roxy in Los Angeles. In support of their new album Event Beat, the Toronto quartet stopped in Los Angeles to deliver an incredible set. As the band walked to the stage to begin, they formed a small pod between each other that left the crowd excited and it honestly felt like such a legendary introduction from them as they appeared larger than life. Given the fact that the band has been around since 2004, their stage presence is a clear testament to their long life as every note and movement was done with immense precision that many artists spend their entire careers trying to imitate. Vocalist, guitarist, and synth player Brian Borcherdt delivered a precise and phenomenal range of performances, keyboardist, vocalist, turntable player, and keyboard player Graham Walsh was an incredible at wearing multiple hats and kept the show entertaining. Drummer Matt Schultz was able to keep up with the sonic chaos of his band-mates to compliment each song, and bassist Matt McQuaid was able to hold everyone together with his incredible skills. With a stacked set-list consisting of “Evie”, “Luxe”, and “Lost Cool”, fans of all ages were singing and dancing along to the band and the entire venue was filled with immense joy. Additionally, Borcherdt was able to enthrall and entertain everyone even more by incorporating a plastic knife with his synthesizer; which much to my surprise is a common practice from the band as well as the use of other random items such as toys and trinkets. As the show was coming to a close, the group played their now famous song “Tom Tom” as seen in the Invincible soundtrack and my introduction to them! Fans were roaring and recording the song as the band were playing along with immense glee. After the final song of the night, the band  would return shortly after for a small encore consisting of the song “Free Gloss” in which everyone in the audience was ecstatic to see. Although Los Angeles was among one of their last stops in their tour, I know Holy Fuck will return once more with another incredible tour.
