Phantogram returned to Los Angeles to a sold-out crowd at the famous Hollywood Palladium to close out the month of February with a bang! In continuation of their Running Through Colors tour, the Greenwich, New York duo stopped in the city of angels with support from Ginger and the Peppers and Sunday (1994). Kicking off the night came Brazilian rock band Ginger and the Peppers in their first ever US tour to reel the crowd in. The band is incredibly reminiscent of Led Zeppelin with their blues inspired riffs and old school rock n roll appearance, but still maintains to bring in modern pop elements primarily from Paramore to bring in their own unique sound and identity. The band was an absolute pleasure to watch as they brought in an immense amount of passion and love into each song and despite the fact that they were incredibly far from home. The crowd responded to them well and clapped, jumped, and cheered them on at the right beats. Although their set was short, their brief time on stage was enough to leave everyone enthralled and leave a mark on the venue demonstrating that their career is only shy of catapulting.Next up is the Transatlantic dream pop trio Sunday (1994) who has been coming in hot the past few months after releasing their debut self titled album “Sunday (1994)”. Led by Paige Turner and Lee Newell and accompanied by drummer X, the trio showed their immense talent to the venue and brought in this beautifully melancholic sound to the venue. As an avid fan of shoegaze, dream pop, and everything in between, I found their sound to immediately sit well with my ear drums and since then I have not stopped listening to them! Paige has an absolutely angelic voice and Lee’s backup vocals and their combined guitar and bass compliment them to such a gorgeous extent that fits everything so well. Their ethereal energy felt like something out of David Lynch’s “Twin Peaks” and both Paige and Lee have stated in interviews that they have a massive appreciation for cinema, so it truly felt like they ripped the pages of so many on screen performances to give us a wonderful experience in the flesh. Their presence felt larger than life and the audience kept roaring after each song! Finally, we have the main act of the show: Phantogram! Duo Sarah Barthel and Josh Carter formed the band a little over a decade ago and have performed with a remarkable variety of artists from all sorts of genres. Additionally, they were one of the faces of the 2010’s “Tumblr Aesthetic” with their electro-indie style and unique fashion sense. Consequently, they became an immediate hit with Millennials and Gen Z’ers and the rest is history. Supporting their great new album “Memory of a Day”, the duo delivered such an electrifying show to old and new fans and had everyone singing & dancing along. The concert was fitting with the tour’s name “Running Through Colors” as the platforms the band performed on was absolutely radiant and flashed a plethora of colors. With their imaginative lighting design, they truly gave a unique performance as they essentially guided us on a tour of colors. With a stacked set list consisting of “Fall In Love”, the new single “It wasn’t meant to be”, and the classic “You Don’t Get Me High Anymore”. The duo truly gave it their all in bringing a memorable performance in the city of angels which we were happy to document in this review so make sure to check out our exclusive photo gallery from the night just below.
