Pond brought something truly unique to Toronto’s Concert Hall. From the moment they opened with “Skyworks” the Australian psych-pop outfit had the audience completely locked in. Front-man Nick Allbrook captured the room with equal parts charisma and unpredictability, leading a set that blended dance-pop grooves with swirling psychedelia. At times, the sound felt so immersive it seemed to wrap around the crowd. Drawing from their latest album, Terrestrials, alongside favourites from The Weather, Stung!, and across a catalogue of eleven studio albums, Pond never let the momentum fade. Every song flowed naturally into the next, while lengthy instrumentals and a constantly evolving set-list reminded everyone that no two Pond shows are ever the same. It was rumoured that some of the members of Tame Impala(who share band mates) were in attendance having a pair of concerts the same weekend in Toronto.
Allbrook’s playful stage presence was impossible to ignore. Between his elastic Mick Jagger-meets-Iggy Pop moves, climbing onto the barricade, and leaning into the front row to sing face-to-face with fans, he made every corner of the venue feel connected. His comment about Toronto appreciating its summers because of its brutal winters earned plenty of laughs and only strengthened the bond between band and audience. Even Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker watched proudly from the rafters confirming the rumours of his attendance. The musicianship was just as captivating. The drummer and synth player shined through the performance, while Allbrook moved effortlessly between guitar and a toy megaphone. Every member embraced the band’s adventurous spirit and by the end of the night, Pond had created the kind of shared experience that only great live music can deliver.
