It has been almost ten years since The All-American Rejects last headlined in Toronto so folks made sure to pack The Theatre at Great Canadian Casino on Tuesday, July 14th. The All-American Rejects became the soundtrack of the early to mid 2000’s, whether it was at the end of a rom-com or a part Bionicle campaign, they were very much everywhere from radio waves to the screen. This audience did enter the venue with a very big nostalgic lens, leaving a handful of die hards screaming along to every word – and not just to the band’s greatest hits.
I would not classify these tracks as “hidden gems” as these have racked up millions of views each, but tracks such as Kids in The Street, Sweat and new releases King Kong and Search Party! deserve their flowers too.
Frontman Tyson Ritter was not only captivating on stage but not afraid to get silly, especially when teasing certain tracks. Conducting both guitarists who were alternating the opening riff for Dirty Little Secret or putting a constant pause on the opening drum fill for Move Along. The entire band was full of so much energy, they were practically jumping around the whole stage! Definitely not in the same place for too long, the only exception being the drummer, of course. Even he was sending all the love and energy back to the audience from his spot. Toronto band Valley would kick off the night, I couldn’t imagine a better opener as they were just honest and good fun. It was a very clear reminder that your new favourite band could be living in your own city right now. If they weren’t already on their radar, well they should be now!
The All-American Rejects can be found touring the for remainder of the summer throughout the United States and a stop in Mexico City for Vans Warped Tour so check your local listings for more dates.
