Katherine Li brings her love, k tour to her home city in support of her newest EP of the same name. This is also Li’s first ever headliner show in Toronto and what a high bar to reach to the play at the Velvet Underground to mark such an important moment for the 20-year-old singer. The nearly sold-out show was celebrated with screaming, adoring fans along with friends and family. A note Katherine made when shouting out the people closest to her was “nobody is safe!” as she could’ve written a song about anyone of them. The songs in question were about crushes, infatuation, hoping the person you like likes you in return and wondering if changing yourself for the person you like would make them like you back. Intense emotions that most of us have experienced at some point in our lives. Songs ‘Really Mean It’, ‘Isn’t it Obvious’ and ‘Like Me, Like Me’ echo all those experiences and feelings all at once. Each song felt as if we were taking a peak into her personal diary. After hearing some stories about audience members crushes, Li dedicated her song ‘Happening Again’ to a couple in the audience who just reached their one-year anniversary. If you’re a fan of Olivia Rodrigo or Sabrina Carpenter do add Katherine Li to your listening rotation, I get the feeling she’ll be as big as them very soon. Canadian singer Jenna Doe opened the show with a lovely acoustic set. Singing songs that were unapologetically queer as the lyrics talked about her past relationship experiences with loving one girl for so long and then developing a crush on someone else to offset Doe’s boredom from the relationship. A crowd-pleasing cover of ‘Teenage Dirtbag’ by Wheatus was played as everybody screamed the lyrics at the top of their lungs. Jenna is on the rise as well so be sure to keep them on your radar. Fans of Conan Gray and Hayley Kiyoko will love Jenna Doe.

The tour has almost completely sold out, but you can still catch her in Chicago and Los Angeles later this month! Enjoy the photo gallery from Friday night just below and be sure to follow Katherine on her Instagram @KkatherineLi to see what she is up to next!
