On Sunday, February 18th 2024 PORNO FOR PYROS played the last of four California based concerts at the history Belasco Theater in LA. As the group began their official farewell tour the Los Angeles based band played a special hometown show with friends and family in attendance for the occasion. This final tour would go by the name “Horns, Thorns en Halos Farewell Tour” and features the UK based band TIGERCUB as the show opener. As Tigercub warmed up the audience, they were greeted with immediate love from the crowd as they entered in with an explosive attitude and energetic aura. The band draws a lot of influence from the old school 90’s grunge scene while putting their own flare on the sound while emanating an addicting energy. Once the intermission was over and the time came for the main event, Porno for Pyros came on stage with the crowd filled to the brim and teeming with excitement & emotion. Everyone inside The Belasco prepared to say goodbye to the band that made 1990’s alternative rock music so iconic.
Front man Perry Farrell would come on locked and loaded to perform the set of a lifetime and as the show began. It became progressively obvious that the band felt the love of the crowd as everyone was smiling throughout the set and were giving it their all. Legendary bassist Mike Watt is playing with the band on this final tour to fill in for the departing Martyn LeNoble. Filling out the rest of the group are original P4P members Peter Distefano and Stephen Perkins. With a stacked set list containing the songs like Orgasm, Porpoise Head, a cover of I Got A Right (Stooges), and one of the band’s greatest hits Tahitian Moon left the audience singing along and dancing to each tune from beginning to end. Eventually the band would conclude their final show in Los Angeles with the song Bad Shit and although the audience and band felt great bliss while enjoying this moment together – it also felt bittersweet in a way. The group still has the rest of the tour to complete but for all the fans in attendance this was their last opportunity to see is this line up live in Los Angeles.
After being around for decades and accumulating millions of fans, Porno for Pyros has decided to wrap things up and call it career. The memories and music will persist forever and the band will be remembered for notable live appearances like Woodstock 1994 as well as radio hits like “Pets”. It was clear while listening to the band play on this night that there was this sense of gratitude coming from them since their fans are the reason why they’ve lasted so long and were able to even embark on this farewell tour. Everyone knows that Perry Farrell will continue to play in Jane’s Addiction for the foreseeable future so we at least still have that to look forward to in the coming years.
