On Thursday CMAT brought her self-described European country vibes to one of NYC’s most historic theatres, the Brooklyn Paramount, on May 14. But before she hit the stage, Blond in Car opened with an eclectic and whimsical energy. Synthy dream-pop instrumentals played on her omnichord primed the audience for CMAT’s unfiltered radiance. CMAT, also known as the “Dunboyne Diana” has been steadily drawing crowds, from the Glastonbury Festival to her debut at Coachella this year. Most recently she was the main opener for Florence + the Machine on their stadium tour across North America. Originally from a small town in Ireland, CMAT made her powerful entrance around 9 PM to a sold-out Brooklyn crowd. A diverse array of faces from various subcultures filled the room, from Irish dads to indie Brooklynites, all resonating with the honesty behind CMAT’s artistry. The tour supports her third album Euro-Country released back in August 2025. CMAT herself says this latest project is “the best thing I have ever made”. Across 12 tracks, she destroys the polished pop-star rhetoric, singing about crying in a KFC parking lot, the brutal beauty standards of society, and unconventional relationships. Her song “Good Man Cries” unfolds as a ballad, showcasing her powerful, raspy vocals over a backdrop of strings. “Iceberg” highlights more of her band members with theatrical keys, twangy electric guitar notes, held together by a steady drum line. The next track, “Take a Sexy Picture of Me,” is quiet and heavy, showcasing the lifelong struggle she’s had with her body image, worsened by online criticism that comes with her newfound fame. Her vintage tone shines through in a fun and campy way, paired with undeniable themes of vulnerability. She took time to sing an acapella edition of Happy Birthday for a young 13-year-old fan, cracked open a fresh Brooklyn lager, and cheered on her bassist moonwalking across center stage. Aside from her honest and captivating artistry, she feels relatable to everyone in the room. This felt like the last time to see her before having to fight a Ticketmaster queue. For the rest of the year she’ll continue bringing her talent to places like Boston, followed by UK/Ireland as well as other festival dates throughout the summer.
