The night in Baltimore at Nevermore Hall kicked off with supporting act Orthodox, a band with chunky riffs and strong drum rhythms based in Nashville. The nu-metal/metal-core band’s guitars felt almost foreboding, with an ambience that had the crowd’s attention closely drawn to the stage. The band’s heavy vocals and fervent instruments echoed the room, kicking the night off to a great start. Next on the lineup was Nevertel. By the number of fans in the crowd you could see singing along, you could Nevertel belonged on the lineup. The band, based out of Tampa Florida, has a lot of a hip-hop influenced sound, giving them a different feeling from the other bands on the lineup. While Wage War’s performance was incredible, it was their set design that stood out the most to me. The stage was designed with a swamp like theme matching their most recent EP’s cover which pays homage to the band’s Florida roots. There was a fishing shack on stage, swamp plants lining the ground, and mic stands wrapped in vines.
While the band played some of their most iconic songs like Manic and MAGNETIC, they also played most if not all of their songs from their new EP titled IT CALLS ME BY NAME including ending the show with SONG OF THE SWAMP. The band’s performance was amazing, their live sound at the venue was almost identical to their recorded studio tracks, but it was the unique set dressing that completed the experience.
